The Success-Energy Reset for Speakers - Michelle Cederberg, CSP

In an age of disengagement, distraction and fatigue still lingering from the pandemic, how we work and live has been tested. As we navigate speaking ‘beyond the pandemic’, and the imminent return of in-person events, we’re juggling a new kind of busy, and wondering ‘what now, what next?’.

In this engaging session, CAPS National President Michelle Cederberg, CSP shares research from her new book The Success-Energy Equation to help you regain focus and reset for speaker-success in a world that needs you more than ever. In this session we will:

Look at typical barriers that get in the way of success, find ways to effectively conquer them, and be reminded why it matters (especially for you as a speaker)
Learn three factors that impact speaker success and assess how you’re doing on each.
Reconnect to why you do what you do and reenergize for the year ahead.

Michelle shares insights learned through 17 years as a full-time speaker, and almost 20 years in CAPS. She’ll end her session with a short update on what’s happening in our great association, and what she’s working on with the National Board this year.

Hope IS a Strategy: What to Think and Do Now - Mark Sanborn, CSP, CPAE

A sales book titled Hope Is Not a Strategy was released in 2003. The title stuck with me, and over the years I’ve become convinced that hope IS a strategy if you understand it correctly. Hope is not wishful thinking or simple optimism. Hope is having something new to try and being willing to try it.

Speakers today need to understand the options they have, the things they can do and then take the appropriate action. This is the kind of hope we can all use.

In this presentation I will focus on the most important changes that have happened in the speaking profession (more in the past 2 years than the 35 years I’ve been in the business) and provide key perspectives and practices you can use.

I’ll cover:

  • Why Covid didn’t change anything (and what it did instead).

  • The best idea I had in 2004 that still applies today.

  • Two priorities that drive client and audience needs.

  • The big shifts in value, platform and positioning.

  • Three questions that will determine exactly what you should be doing now.
